This popular romance novel is a piece of American publishing history. Written by a woman, this series is seen as among the earliest historical novels in a modern style and among the first to become bestsellers. This particular printing is extremely rare, and quite old, and reflects an active printing scene in Baltimore which did not necessarily pay royalties to the English authors whose books it printed.
