English Grammar in Familiar Lectures;
Accompanied by a Compendium embracing New Systematic Order of Parsing a new system of punctuation, Exercises in False Syntax, and System of Philosophical Grammar, in Notes: to which are added, an appendix and a key to the exercises designed for the use of schools and private learners.
By Samuel Kirkham, Pub. Robert B. Collins, New York, 1834.
There are many later editions of this book available online, but very few from the earliest printings, very few of this vintage and condition.
Hardback 7.25" x 5.5" approx. 250 pages. Good condition, leather bound, embossed spine stamps, little mis-shaping of board corners, age-related wear and discoloration. Cover binding is cracked, but still usable, little damage to pages. Overall quite good condition for a book of its age. Priced fairly to reflect the condition.
An inscription on the inside fly reads "John K. Rutter, Earl Township, New Holland [PA]".
This beautiful rare book is more than a simple grammar textbook, but it comes from the same impulse which inspired McGuffey's pedagogy. A sizable foldout chart nearly 18" across is still intact, in good condition.
