Mary Caples Morrison (1907-1995) was born in Richmond, Virginia but spent over forty years of her life in the Shenandoah Valley, living in the small town of Harrisonburg. A graduate of the Collegiate School in Richmond, she went on to attend the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C. where she graduated with honors. Initially focused on sculpture, for a time training with Gutzon Borglum, the artist turned to painting as a young adult and continued to paint for the rest of her life. Morrison often depicted the landscape and the people of the Valley, Morrison's work has been exhibited at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and the Corcoran Gallery of Art, among others.
When Mary Eva Caples was born on 20 December 1907, in Petersburg, Dinwiddie, Virginia, United States, her father, Edward Summerfield Caples, was 36 and her mother, Mary Eva Bitzer, was 30. She married Claude Moore Morrison on 26 December 1930. They were the parents of at least 1 son. She lived in Harrisonburg, Virginia, United States for about 5 years and Clifton, Fairfax County, Virginia, United States in 1985. She died on 13 October 1995, in Denton, Caroline, Maryland, United States, at the age of 87.
