Blair, Charles William

Presbyterians in northwestern Augusta County and southwestern Rockingham County, Virginia, have worshiped for over 220 years on the banks of Mossy Creek.  Hearty pioneers from the north of Ireland who had attended Augusta and Cooks Creek meeting houses organized the church in 1768 and med in a crude log structure for worship services.  The Reverend Thomas Jackson, the first pastor, served not only the congregation at Mossy Creek but also congregations at Cooks Creek and Peaked Mountain.

As a rural church in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, the history of Mossy Creek Church reflects many important aspects of religious and social life in the new American republic.
