Steve Strosnider researched the rise of rock'n'roll in the shenandoah valley during the 1960s. His has 37 chapters about musicians and bands who were instrumental in the development of Rock ' n ' Roll.

Strosnider says prior to 1960s, country music ruled the area. He lives in Roanoke now, but is originally from Woodstock, and played in a band himself. He says writing this book has been an educational trip down memory lane, and that fellow baby boomers will remember the many different fads of the era.

"When they think of sixties music they think of some guy in a tie-dyed shirt playing psychedelic music but it wasn't that at all. That was only one of many different musical styles that came and went," said Strosnider.
