Riggleman Family of Va. & WVa., The

The name Riggleman in German means "rail splitter." It appears that most of the Riggleman families in Virginia and West Virginia are descended from John and Barbara Whetzel Riggleman of the Brocks Gap area of Rockingham County, Virginia. John moved to Brocks Gap after 1790. Evidence shows that John may have come from Germany. John and Barbara were the parents of twelve children. Descendants live in Virginia, West Virginia and other parts of the country.
