Like Rockbridge and Shenandoah counties, Rockingham's formation in 1778 was part of a major division of the two frontier counties of Augusta and Frederick during the American Revolution. 5,526 marriage records and bonds have been abstracted in the current volume from registers in the Virginia State Library, Archives Division. Accompanying data includes ministers' names, parents, and occasional bondsmen.
